The Town of Stow Massachusetts

Stow is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, located 23 miles west of Boston, in the MetroWest region of Massachusetts. Stow was first settled around 1660 by Matthew Boon and John Kettell. Coming from Gloucester and Charlestown, Massachusetts, these two men settled the land of the Tantamous (Jethro) Native Americans.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 18.1 square miles (47 km2), of which 17.6 square miles (46 km2) is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) is water. It is located in eastern-central Massachusetts. Stow may be best known for its numerous golf courses, with a total of four different courses, boasting 81 total holes of golf in town. The best known of these is Stow Acres Country Club, the site of the 1995 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Numerous times it has been ranked among the best public courses in the state.

Situated midway between Boston and Worcester, Stow is known as a small residential community with rural aspects. The town is home to several apple orchards, a particularly beautiful sight to behold in spring, attracting many people in the early fall for apple picking. In addition to its status as a mecca for golfers, Stow is also known for a private airport and Lake Boon, which has become an attractive year-around residential area and additional source of pride for the community.
